Racism: A Diary

Given all that has happened recently – murders of unarmed black citizens, protests, a global pandemic, and an economic recession, I felt compelled to document some of the most pivotal experience of racism that I can recall. Being from a good family, getting a good education, working hard, dressing professionally, even being “rich” – none of those things have shielded me from this long series of small, but hurtful experiences – that is what systemic racism is…we live in a system that makes it impossible for anyone to emerge unscathed by disparity.

I Can’t Breathe: How Systemic Racism Motivated my Journey to Financial Freedom

The last couple of months have been brutal. I’m usually an almost annoyingly positive and optimistic person, but the events of the past few months have made it difficult to get out of bed and smile on many recent days. I am an American. I am a black American. My heart breaks each time I see another video of an unarmed black person (or any person) murdered. I don’t know how to bridge the growing the divide between the people suffering and those denying that anything is wrong. All I can do is tell my story, speak my truth, and lead as many of you to freedom as possible.

The Principles of Financial Freedom

I’ve been quietly financially free since 2015. Sometimes I tell people that it happened by accident…but if I’m honest, that’s not true. In this blog, I’m doing my best to share the steps I took in case you might also be interested in getting free and want to follow a similar path.

Stop Fighting for a Seat at the Table: Build Your Own!

After years being told that things would improve for me once I’d “paid my dues,” I’m now calling bull-sh*t on that lie. There is no light at the end of this worker bee tunnel, especially not for women and people of color.

Choose the Path that Feels Good Over that Path that Looks Good

When you’re young and/or you don’t have a lot of life experience, making major life decisions is often difficult because what feels right to you internally doesn’t always align with what parents, society, and friends are urging you to do. I wrestled with this and learned the hard way that making decisions guided by the approval of others leads to misery.

When Opportunity Knocks, Answer

“Sometimes the safest choice is the riskest.” – Unknown Looking back on some of the most pivotal moments in my life and career – they all have one thing in common: FEAR. In all of the key moments that have given me major economic boosts: buying my first place, switching career paths, leaving NYC toContinue reading “When Opportunity Knocks, Answer”

How I Bought a 2bdrm Condo in Manhattan Making Less Than $40k/year. Hint: You Can Do It Too!

Cash flowing real estate ownership has been a huge (and largely accidental) part of my journey to financial freedom. I’ll share this portion of my story with the BIG caveat that real estate isn’t for everyone and it doesn’t always work out for everyone. That said, the fact that I was able to make itContinue reading “How I Bought a 2bdrm Condo in Manhattan Making Less Than $40k/year. Hint: You Can Do It Too!”
